It allows us to recognize that genuine feeling of guilt, this is a gift, a privilege to avoid the suffering that comes as a result of sin.

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and we walk in darkness, we lie, and do not practice the truth; 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

We children of God usually deal with feelings of guilt constantly, we often believe that we do not do enough of something: We do not pray enough, we do not read the Bible enough, etc. Generally this happens in those churches where legalism is common, guilt is the instrument par excellence of the devil, in this way it keeps God's people captive, even his children.

The Bible presents us with the antidote to eradicate the feeling of guilt, "Repentance" but genuine repentance, not repentance of a false guilt that has nothing to do with those true feelings.

Repent of voluntary sin is when we desire from the depths of our being freedom from that which oppresses us, that does not allow us to live fully, it is to free ourselves from what we do, think or say voluntarily. It is not the fault of what other leaders or believers would have us believe, that is a sin that they must repent of.

When we are rooted in the word of God we have the opportunity to face and reject satan's scourges making us believe we are guilty when in reality he is wasting our time.

Let us remember that we have freedom in Christ, his word is light and allows us to see beyond the sin that can get in the way, we just have to trust in God.
