We can continue to carry the burden or choose what God says about us, to believe it.
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
As children of God we can fall into this false guilt and this undoubtedly has a weight that becomes unbearable. All of this can make us doubt God's love and grace for us, it even leads us to doubt salvation, whether this is real or not, God simply fervently desires for us to know that we can have permanent relief from this burden.
How can we do it? First of all we must clearly identify what is the root of this guilt and counteract it with biblical truths.
Let us always remember that each one of us is special, we have been created in the image and likeness of God, any reason that comes to our thoughts as an idea to prove otherwise is simply a lie from the devil. Each one of us has been created with specific faculties and abilities, God has enabled us to glorify Him here on earth and in His kingdom.
11 And He Himself gave some, apostles; some, prophets; some, evangelists; some, pastors and teachers,
Ephesians 4:11
We must also be very clear that we are loved by God, God has chosen us and blessed us since before the foundation of the world, His desire is that we live for Him and with Him eternally, for this He has sent His Son in propitiation for our sins, we do not have to do absolutely anything to earn the love of God, we do not have the ability to do so, the love and grace of God is available only for us to enjoy and live in Him.
Because of all this God has forgiven us, our job is simply to confess our sins and believe that the Lord forgives us, understand and have the conviction through the word of God that Jesus Christ is our advocate before God, there is no need for any kind of feeling, this is so because the Bible teaches it that way.
Let us remember then that to counteract this false guilt we must always declare that we are special before God, we are loved and forgiven to live a full life forever with the Lord.
Satan can be an expert in creating in people a feeling of false guilt, our job is to resist these lies, here it is not about feeling it is something rational, believe what the word of God says and take ownership of it, feelings of guilt have no place in us, we must refuse to accept ourselves and accept and receive wholeheartedly the promises of the word of God that are what fill our hearts with life.
