Legal status and legal protection:
In China, the legal status of animals is mainly as "movable property" in property law. The Wildlife Protection Law is a specialized legislation for the protection of wildlife, reflecting special protection for wildlife. This law clearly stipulates that the ownership of wild animals belongs to the state, and comprehensively regulates the protection, management, hunting, breeding, and trade of wild animals. The Criminal Law also sets up relevant charges, such as illegal hunting, killing of precious and endangered wildlife, to strengthen the protection of wildlife

In addition, China has also issued an expert recommendation draft of the General Principles of Civil Law, which includes a clause prohibiting animal abuse, but it was ultimately not adopted. According to the Tort Liability Law, if an animal raised causes harm to others, the animal owner or manager shall bear no fault liability

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the protection of giant pandas and has taken measures such as strengthening artificial breeding and habitat protection, successfully overcoming the difficulties of artificial breeding of giant pandas and achieving self sustainability and rapid growth of captive populations. At the same time, multiple giant panda nature reserves and giant panda breeding research centers have been established, and a series of ecological protection projects such as the "China Conservation of Giant Pandas and Their Habitats Project" have been implemented.
