What is a woodpecker?
This is a type of bird that has very strong claws, which it uses to settle on tree trunks and a very strong bill it uses to peck and make whole on trees for nesting and search for insects. This bird has a long, sticky tongue, which it uses to trap insects. Woodpecker has a red crest on their heads. Their feathers are mostly black with white patches.
These birds are called woodpeckers because they always make holes in tree bark by pecking to find insects as food. They can live for about four to twelve years.
Feeding and habitat
woodpecker feeds on insects, lizards, spiders, beetles and fruits. It mostly attracts insects by making whole on trees and extracting insects with their long sticky tongues. They also feed on their lava.
They are found almost everywhere and enjoy staying in forests and woodland areas where they can have access to trees to peck.

MY DRAWING
Materials used
Step 1
I began my drawing from the head of the woodpecker. After the head, I drew the strong peck and the back of the bird.
Step 2
I complete the bird by drawing its stomach and long tail. I also drew a leg that has strong claws.
Step 3
I drew the eye of the bird and the tree that the bird is pecking.
Step 4
Here, I started colouring the bird from the head. I began with the red crest on the head of the woodpecker. I coloured the eyelid black with a pencil, and I also coloured other parts of the head with violet, brown, and black colours, respectively.
Step 5
I applied a thick black colour on the feathers of the woodpecker and left other areas white to serve as white parches.
Step 6
I lightly coloured the remaining parts of the woodpecker with a pencil and applied red colour towards its tail.
Step 7
I drew and coloured the particle of the tree in the peck of the woodpecker. The particle is coloured yellow.
Finally, at this stage, I coloured the leg and claw of the woodpecker.
Step 8
Here, I coloured the tree trunk that the woodpecker is pecking. I used yellow colour, 6B pencil and charcoal pencil to colour the tree.
