Last summer my family and I traveled around the country a little. I took a lot of photos on this trip. And I want to share them.

Heading downstream of the Neva, we sailed under a bridge called the Palace Bridge. The photo shows the massive supports of this bridge, which contain lifting mechanisms and counterweights that raise the central wings of the bridge for the passage of ships along the river. Once upon a time in the 19th century there was a floating bridge at this place. That is, it rested on barges anchored on the river. Then, at the beginning of the 20th century, a permanent bridge with wooden decking was built. And only in the second half of the 20th century the bridge acquired its modern appearance.

I strongly recommend to open the photo in a separate tab to appreciate it.
