The Bible with its stories shows the importance of both paths, just as there are righteous people there are also sinful people. In ancient times, just as there were kings like David, Solomon, and Josiah, who fulfilled the Law of Moses and inspired others to imitate them, there were also tyrants like Shalmaneser ruler of the Assyrian empire, and Nebuchadnezzar ruler of the Babylonian empire. In the government of one person, monarchies, as Aristotle defined them, are blessed because they seek virtue and the common good, but tyrannies are not, because they only serve to achieve the good of the ruler.
And the lives of these governants were a demonstration of a spiritual truth explained in the Book of Proverbs: "No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted" Proverbs 12:3.
The Book of Proverbs reflects with this wise teaching that power and money are deceptive goals, and those who build on them, build on sand. And the examples of this are many, after being defeated in the siege of Jerusalem, Sennacherib returned to Nineveh where he was murdered by one of his sons while worshiping his God. On the other hand, Nebuchadnezzar, for his cruelty, was punished with madness until he recognized the only God. None of these kings left a lasting legacy and their memory faded like a passing cloud.
And all this speech has a foundation, there is an eternal spiritual law that cannot be changed, as the prophets taught: "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7, "Do not sow in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold," Ben Sira 7:3. Those who make perversion a path cannot control the negative effects of this law, however those who seek righteousness and mercy are blessed through the positive effects of this law.
In the spiritual war that is eternal, men must choose between righteousness and sin.
