Hello!

With Christmas only days away, I'm feeling festive- so I wanted to draw some festive greeting card designs with cats!

Gingerbread Cat!

card1.jpg

This cat was inspired by my love of cats and my craving for gingerbread biscuits, even though they are very tasty I rarely buy them! They usually don't really cross my mind unless they're right in front of me, haha.

I wanted the biscuit to look well baked and the icing to look fluffy! I also chose a red jagged border because I wanted to mimic a postal stamp.

I wanted the middle to be the focal point, the background to be neutral and not too intense on the eyes, and then the red border to box everything in!

Star Cat!

I thought it would be funny to give this cat intense eyes, because stars are very bright and eye catching so I wanted the eyes to be a focal point in this drawing too! I realize now that their stripes do look a bit tiger (?) like because they're more intense- but that was an intentional style choice! Next time I might try tone them down so that they look more like a house cat.

As for the rest of the drawing, I didn't want to use yellow for the star as I felt it would blend in too much with the color of the cat fur, so I used a darker red which would go well with the fur color as they're both warm hues. Meanwhile the background is green (because Christmas tree color) and the border is yellow to reference a star color!

Warm Cat!

This little fellow is very wrapped up and warm- they're so prepared for this winter weather we're having! With a lovely thick hat and scarf, and a matching 2 pairs of socks.

This design is a bit more simple in the line work because I wanted it to be more silly and cartoony.

The fur design is a bit simple but it is inspired by our cat who passed away in September of this year, she was really sweet and silly and I do miss her a lot! I also love making art of her/inspired by her because it's a lovely way to remember her by. ❀

Decoration Cat!

What is this cheeky feline doing? Stealing some bauble decoration from the Christmas tree again...

For this drawing and the previous one, I used Chromatic aberration as a texture during the coloring process.

Chromatic aberration is an effect in the Procreate library (which is the drawing software I use on my iPad) which can be added to a drawing to some distortion. This gives it a distorted, rainbow appearance- similar to when you wear 3D glasses for movies!

I used the effect on the actual bauble after I used a dot brush- this made it look more 3D.

I mostly went with cool colors (blue, green and white) in this drawing! But kept the cat as a warm color so they stood out a bit more.

Using white as an accent color or a border color really makes drawings pop in my opinion, I love doing it. 😊

Thank you for reading! 😊
