How do you incorporate kindness into your life?

It’s really easy to be kind when you’re living in a crowded country like Bangladesh. Everyday we meet many people who need a little care. I try to create tiny acts of kindness in my life. For instance, if an old person is finding it difficult to hold a heavy, I help them get it. I give away some of my old warm clothes to poor people in winter.
I also try to treat people nicely. In Bangladesh I have also seen shop workers and laborers get treated badly. I speak to them with respect. I believe that being good is also being kind.
Do you think kindness is important in the life of any human being?
I believe that the more kind you are, the better a human being you are. In Bangladesh poor people hardly get food and patients cannot avail proper treatment. If only everyone in society would do things differently and show a little bit of kindness, then these are things we’d stop needing.
In villages kindness matters even more. A lot of times villagers try to help each other. Neighbours come to help if a farmer’s cow should sicken. When a storm damages someone’s house, everyone comes together to rebuild. These are acts of kindness that make up our society.
Not only is kindness good for others, but it makes us feel good, too. Helping someone makes us happy and peaceful inside.
Do you have the ability to be kind?
I think I can be kind. You don’t have to be kind with something big. Small acts can show care.
At school once, my friend forgot her books. I shared my books with her. I still remember her happiness. The lesson of that day was that kindness doesn’t always have to be huge for it to mean something.
I always become kind if I can. When someone asks for a piece of my time or I pass someone hungry on the street, I try to do small acts of helping them, like getting something to eat. They are easy things to do.
Is there an act of kindness that you can remember? Whether you did it yourself or someone did it to you?

There is a special moment in my life that I remember. At my hostel in Dhaka, the maid didn’t even have warm clothes for winter. I did feel very sorry for her when I saw her shivering one day. I handed her one of my warm clothes. With her she blessed me, may Allah bless you and it really got to me.
Then there’s another memory of my mother. There was a poor farmer near our house who needed help for his daughter’s wedding. And as much as my mom could help him he’s help her by any means necessary. They’re still thankful to us.
I learned through these experiences that it doesn’t just matter what you give, it matters that you care. Kindness is very important in Bangladesh where many people struggles.
