What do you know about the day?

World Science Day

November 10 is marked as World Science Day. It came about in 2001, when UNESCO first began it. Main purpose was to make science aware among people, to display science as a tool of social development. The need for science and technology is very important for developing countries like Bangladesh. Campaigning for World Science Day contributes to increase awareness about the importance and effect of science and technology. This day makes people learn that science and technology can be used to reach social development and peace. The day is a significant day for promoting science practice and creating new ideas in world.

Propose and Draw a Mascot to represent the day.

Mascot for World Science Day- Drawing by me

I draw this mascot for World Science Day. I am not master in drawing. Just try to draw a mascot 1st time. I hope you all like this.

Give a brief description of your mascot.

Description of the Mascot

The above mentioned mascot is a simple and cheerful character attractive especially for the children and youngsters. This symbolizes global unity seeing that the mascots head is round shaped like a globe. The dove or olive branch is typical for peace or stability, the book for knowledge and education. Both science and peace resonate in it. It spreads good message to all and builds a scientific minded person. This mascot will attract young people to science education and encourage them to acquire a peaceful positive attitude and positive values in Bangladesh.

What are the changes you think this day has brought to your community.

Changes by Science

World Science Day celebrations in Bangladesh have also sparked students to be interested in technology and science. This encourages them to think about scientific ways. That's why schools, colleges and universities organize science fairs, seminars, discussions and exhibitions. In addition, there are different science programs and competitions that made the young generation innovate. By World Science Day, the younger generation is learning more about health, about agriculture, about education, about the environment. This is also encouraged to use this knowledge to build our country. This day is working to help students develop science leading and thinking.

Who are the active promoter, and what do you think can be added to have more impact to your community.

New Step for Promoting this Day

UNESCO Bangladesh, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the various educational institutions as well as some NGOs in Bangladesh celebrate World Science Day. Science fairs, discussions, and seminars are held by school and universities to allow students display their innovative projects. For this day to be more productive in Bangladesh some new steps can be taken. For example, online learning platforms could be used to learn science and have people discussing with scientists and researchers. Practically, the students would be able to study science if they were given opportunities for local science exhibitions and lab visits. With this World Science Day will have greater impact and society will understand the importance of science and technology.
