Good evening campus connect fam, Ace is here yet again with his entry to the engagement challenge for this week with regards to my first day on campus. Seeing this contest alone gave me a kind of nostalgic vibe as I remembered my rugged first year days back in 2018. It was a really fun and thrilling experience which I am willing to share. Without further ado ladies and gentlemen, let's get into it

CAMPUS AND THE SCHOOL ATMOSPHERE AS A FIRST YEAR ON HIS FIRST DAY

It was warm and sunny morning here in Nsukka. My cousin and I arrive only a day before inorder to find accomodation but ended up reaching at night so we had to lodge at the cheapest hotel possible. I was so fired up and ready to go into the campus because I was to meet up with a secondary school classmate of mine who had also come looking for accomodation as a new student.

I went ahead of my cousin and entered into the campus using the school shuttle bus. It was like a whole city of it's own. I see all kinds on students while roaming around. It had a really calm atmosphere where everyone was friendly and we're glad to show us around the campus. I met up with my friend and he told me he was having a birthday party in the next 4 hours.

I helped him set up the things for his party and when we were done, we decided to go around and explore a bit more. We started with the biggest male hostel, "The Trenches" where we encountered lots of people from friendly to funny to serious and unserious. The environment wasn't in it's best shape believe me but the students were already used to it and living happily.

THE PEOPLE I MET DURING MY FIRST DAY ON CAMPUS

As I mentioned earlier, I met lots of people asking for directions and other campus related questions but I won't really regard them since I didn't get a proper experience with them. I met the main people during the birthday party.

It was time for the birthday party but I had to run back to the hotel where I lodged to take care of an emergency so I came a bit late for the event. On my arrival to the party, I was greeted by lots of my secondary school friends who came to the university too in conjunction with a couple of fine looking females and some new faces. The way they hailed me on my way in, it made me feel like a celebrity.

During the birthday, I got to talk to the ladies and got to know the new faces. We even played truth or dare, devil's basket and a couple of other normal youth party games. There were alot of naughty events during the birthday party 😏 but for the benefit of any child that might come across this post, I would safe that for another time 😅. We had a blast and I even collected alot of numbers. We are still in touch up until right now although some of them moved to another campus while some others left the university to school abroad but we still keep in touch from time to time.

THE REST OF THE DAY

The birthday party ended with us chasing the celebrant and dumping all kinds of drinks on him from water, to wine and even alcoholic drinks. A couple of them went to their respective lodges and hotels while I had to meet up with my cousin to look for accomodation as the hotel price wasn't really favourable to us.

We started with a place called hilltop which was known to be where the bad guys and hot girls stayed off campus. We got to confirm that all they said about the place were true. We confirmed the prices of a couple of lodges and even encountered some campus drama. Hilltop was surprisingly the closest place off campus to my department.

We then moved on to a place far away called Odim. Here was a peaceful village area with more of old people and parents than students and it was incredibly far from my department but they had cheaper rent prices and since it's peaceful then I also considered it.

We wanted to continue searching but it was already 9pm and as students who just got here we didn't know the kind of dangers that would befall us if we stayed up late at night so we retired to the hotel, got something to eat from a nearby kiosk and retired to the hotel to renew our lodging fee and went to sleep. It really was a tiring day so we slept like log of wood.
