Steem-agro contest: "My soil Enhancement methods"

Fertile soil is the main input for crop production. Use of each thing degrades or reduces it, just as the constant production of crops on the land reduces the fertility of the land. If we want to produce good crops we should take steps to take care of the soil and increase its fertility. I would like to thank Steam-Agro for bringing up such an important topic.

What does soil improvement mean? Have you practiced it before?

Increasing soil nutrients and increasing soil fertility to increase crop production is called soil enhancement. We constantly take care of the soil because it is from the soil that our agricultural production increases. We apply organic matter, compost and green manure to the soil to improve the soil. Only application of fertilizers to the soil improves the quality of the soil in moderation and controls erosion. If we apply too much fertilizer it will result in overgrowth of crop plants and insect infestation which will require moderate and controlled fertilizer management.

How does your soil enhancement method improve soil fertility in the long term?

Creating a balanced soil ecosystem to maintain soil fertility in the long term. Resting the soil should reduce the tendency of the soil to overproduce, thereby increasing soil fertility. For example we grow two crops a year and let the soil rest the rest of the time. Application of organic fertilizers to the soil to increase soil fertility, which helps increase soil aeration and drainage and facilitates water infiltration. Applying manure as a gradual addition of nutrients to ensure long-term soil nutrition.

What organic materials or amendments have you used to improve soil quality?

We use three materials that improve soil quality to improve and retain soil quality.

• Ancient Method : Application of Green Manure It is very strong material for soil which improves the soil. Green manure is generally produced by cultivating green plants in the soil and when the green plants are 3 to 5 feet tall, they are plowed with a tractor while they are still green and then mixed with the soil and decomposed. This method is still used in our country and it greatly increases soil fertility.

• Applying lime or blessing powder: Applying lime or blessing powder to soil increases soil fertility by removing soil acidity and propagating beneficial organisms.

• Organic Fertilizers: Organic fertilizers in agricultural land are very useful for improving soil quality. We use cow dung on the land and also use vermicompost to increase the fertility of agricultural land in the long run.

What do you use to retain moisture in your soil?

Many new technologies are being developed to retain soil moisture. Now we still irrigate regularly for moisture. Many are also following mulching practices to retain soil moisture. We control with compost and regular irrigation to retain moisture.
